Use the timeline below as your guide to preparing for post high school planning.
• Continue to develop good study habits. Reading text books, taking good notes, doing your homework well and on time, studying prior to quizzes and tests.
• Utilize zero hour (before school ) for academic support.
• Use Infinite Campus to monitor your grades.
• Refer to your high school plan of study (4 year plan of study) prior to requesting your courses for next year.
• Look at the WHS Curriculum Guide in making decisions. Request classes for Junior year based upon career interests/post high school plans. Take the most difficult classes you can handle.
- Students wanting to take Youth Options classes at a tech school or university during their Junior year need to request "Youth Options Class" for the appropriate semesters when requesting classes in January. Additionally, students must submit all paperwork to their school counselor by March 1st for fall courses and October 1st for spring semester courses. Required forms include the Whitnall request form, DPI form, and the college/ tech school application. See your counselor for more information.
- Take the Career Cruising Career Matchmaker assessment (answer at least 58 questions).
- Identify the top 3 suggested Career Clusters.
- SAVE at least 4 occupations and review educational requirements for at least 2 career matches of interes.t
- Write a My Journal entry about saved careers. Is there a pattern or clear area or skill of interest?
- Review saved Career Clusters and add any others of interest.
- Save at least one additional career of interest to My Plan and compare to the 4 other saved careers from previous grades.
- Take the Learning Styles Inventory and save the results.
- Complete the My Skills assessment and save the results.
- Add at least one skill needed for careers of interest and make a list of skills to work toward in My Journal.
- Add or update short-term and long-term goals in My Plan.
- Under Education, review College Planning Timeline.
- Add at lease one volunteer experience , work experience, award, or certificate and save to My Plan.
- Identify helpful high school courses (shown on the "education tab" of your saved occupation).
- Based on careers of interest, skills, activities and goals, complete grade 11 course selection using Course Planner Tool.
- Reference the 4 year plan and identify courses of interest available at Whitnall High School.
• Complete the Sophomore career research paper.
• Talk with your parents about careers that interest you.
• Enroll in a summer enrichment program.
• Volunteer in your community.
• Attend college fairs to begin assessing the right fit for your post high school plans.
