PRE ACT TEST - replaced the ASPIRE tests previously given to grades 9 and 10. The computer based assessment will test in the same four subjects: English (30 min), Math (40 min), Reading (20 min) and Science (25 min).
PSAT/NMSQT (http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/about.html). Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a national test offered to pre-registered 11th grade students on a national test date. This is a practice SAT test which covers critical reading, math problem solving, and writing skills. Juniors who do very well on this test may qualify for National Merit Scholarship program.This is not a mandatory test.
ACT test will be administered to ALL juniors at Whitnall High School in spring semester There is no need to register online for this test which is administered at school through state testing. Students may choose to take this test more than the mandatory one time. For additional tests, students need to register to take it through the ACT website (http://www.actstudent.org). The ACT is a college admissions test measures students academic achievement through English, Math, Reading, Science and an optional writing test. If a student registers to take a second ACT test (other than the one given by the school through state testing) please use the ACT student ID number printed at the top of your score report to sync your students ACT test accounts. The Whitnall High school code is 500-838. Putting in the Whitnall code will allow Whitnall to receive the score report from ACT. Scores range from 1 (lowest) - 36 (highest) with a national average composite of 21. Students should answer all questions on this test since there is no penalty for guessing.
SAT Reasoning Test (http://www.collegeboard.com) - The SAT test is recommend for students who took the PSAT and may qualify for scholarship money through National Merit. The test measures critical thinking and measures verbal, math, and writing. Students planning to apply to college outside of Wisconsin, Minnesota, or the Midwest may consider taking the test. Scores range from 200 (lowest) to 800 (highest). The national average combined score is 1500. If unable to make a good, estimated guess on an answer, consider leaving the answer blank, since points are deducted for incorrect answers.
SAT II Subject Tests (http://www.collegeboard.com) - The Scholastic Aptitude Subject tests are hour-long tests which measure knowledge a student has already acquired in a particular subject including literature, history, math, science, and world language. Some selective colleges may require students to take one or more SAT tests when applying for admission.
AP Tests -((http://www.collegeboard.com) - AP exams are given during the month of May on the national test dates. Exams are in two sections -- one section is multiple choice, and the second section is free response questions in a variety of formats (essays, audio-taped responses, analysis of historical documents, etc.). Registration for the test is done by filling out a form given to students by the AP teacher. Scores on the test range from 1-5. Students receive a grade report in July. Many schools accept scores of 3 or higher and may award college credit. You can view your scores, send them to colleges, and learn more about AP testing by going to Collegeboard.com.
